Olympus mju 1060 µ Review
The elegant steel bodied Olympus µ1060 from the Olympus µ (mju) family is the latest compact wonder to hit the photography world.
Equipped with a 10 megapixel sensor and a 7x optical zoom lens (37-260mm), this compact beauty offers integrated Dual Image Stabilization to eliminate blur while getting you closer to the subject, thus taking care of accidental camera shakes.
It offers a 3 inch HyperCrystal LCD for framing and clear viewability during shot review. Its intelligent Auto mode, that knows exactly what settings to use in frequently used shooting conditions, makes photographing worry-free. Amateur photographers can now put their fears to rest because the Advanced Face Detection feature tells the camera where to focus.
The Shadow Adjustment Technology helps to adjust sharp contrasts giving smooth and well-balanced pictures. Various faster ISO settings (up to 6400) enable good exposure at night and in poor light. In addition, the high speed 7 frames per second (in 3 megapixel mode) sees to it that the perfect shot and the perfect moment is never missed.
Moving images can also be shot at VGA resolution at 30fps. Olympus’ TruePic II image processing engine enables the µ 1060 to see and reproduce pictures almost like the human eye. Moreover it reduces noise by isolating noise signals and ensures increased image processing speeds.
The in-camera panorama function allows the capturing of about 130° wide coverage. What’s more, a perfect panoramic spreadsheet can be obtained by putting various pictures together (done in conjunction with a memory card).
For those who just love to click away or those who love highly magnified pictures, storage memory should not be a problem. The Olympus µ1060 comes with a dual purpose slot for xD-Picture card as well as microSD Card for extra storage on those long trips.
The user friendly Olympus µ(mju) 1060 provides in-built help for the novice, and its well-illuminated buttons are easy to use. It comes in three exciting colors: Starry Silver, Cyan Green and Midnight Black, and is priced at about $231 to $330.
The pioneering technology of Olympus hardly leaves any space for any downside. One limitation though is that the panoramic mode is restricted to xD-Picture card only. Those using microSD cannot use this option. In keeping with the latest trends, a touch-screen feature, a higher resolution and a wide angle lens would give the Olympus µ1060 more of an edge over its competitors. Not a problem, since the users have enough features to juggle with for a well automated photographic experience.
