New MacBook Air 2010 Unveiled
Sales of the iPad are by far outnumbering those of Mac computers, but this may be changing soon. The MacBook Air promises a whole new type of notebook, with the functions of a full sized computer combined with the lightness and portability of a tablet. Here are a few of the features that set the MacBok Air apart from the competition.
Compact, Light Design
Apple took a risk with the MacBook Air, one that would make the device worthy of its name. They got rid of a hard drive, instead using much lighter flash storage that allows the device to achieve the same specifications with less physical heft and a longer battery life. The result is a 13 inch notebook with a high resolution 11.6 inch display that weighs in under three pounds total-without any of the sacrifices in memory that another approach would have demanded.
Full Sized Features
While the MacBook Air is as light as a notebook can be, it doesn’t sacrifice when it comes to features. It has a full sized keyboard that the large-fingered among us will appreciate, as well as a built in camera and microphone equipped to facilitate video calls. The Intel Core 2 Duo processor and high powered graphics card will ensure that you have all the performance you need to use the MacBook Air for both work and play. One aspect that sets the device apart from PC’s in the same class is the inclusion of Snow Leopard OS and iLife as a standard feature. This light piece of technology doesn’t go light when it comes to simplifying your life.
Born to Network
If you are the type that loves to socialize, you’ll appreciate that the MacBook Air was created with your personality in mind. The device includes the latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology to get you online from almost anywhere in the globe. You can also charge your other devices from the two USB ports and even hook up the laptop to your HDTV.
Worth the Price?
The MacBook Air comes at a relatively hefty price, although this will be no surprise to owners of other Apple products. However, if it should break, you will find that it is even more expensive than the alternatives. A recent review from iFixit gave the device a rating of just four out of ten, which means that the repairs will likely be difficult and costly. Security Torx screws ensure that your kids won’t be able to dismantle the thing, but your favorite computer repair guy might have a problem with it as well.
Computer companies are always trying to be the new latest thing, and Apple just may have succeeded here. While the MacBook Air is a little on the pricy side, buyers will certainly be getting their money’s worth. In addition to the many features and the unbelievably light construction, the notebook has a wow factor that other notebooks on the market are sorely lacking. If you are looking for the latest and lightest notebook on the market, this is likely the only choice for you.
