HP EliteBook 6930p With 24 Hours Battery Review

Hewlett-Packard Co., better known as HP, a world leader as far as printing, computing and IT services are concerned, and now the owner of EDS, has once again caught the attention of many, by announcing the HP EliteBook 6930p which is said to run non-stop for 24 hours on a single battery charge.

For those who often go on long business trips and are always on the lookout for a power outlet, this is indeed a boon. This is also great news for computer geeks who are glued to their notebooks, and take their eyes off it only during a “loo break”. So those who are into serious fulltime business need not hurry up with their work for fear that they might run out of battery.

When configured with an ultra-capacity battery, this is optional. The HP EliteBook 6930p can keep running beyond business hours and till the early hours of the next morning. This has been made possible by the HP experts who put together a perfect power-saving component configuration using mercury-free LED displays and Intel solid-state hard drives (SSD).

Intel’s solid state drives do not have spinning and moving parts and therefore they are power-efficient, lighter and faster in responsiveness, thus extending the battery life by 7 percent.

SSDs also increase the performance by up to 57 percent of industry standards and make data transfers nearly six times faster in comparison to traditional hard drives. Using a mercury-free LED display is a rather smart move over the traditional LCDs as it consumes less power and extends the run time of the battery by up to 4 hours.

Moreover, eliminating mercury, which is a major health hazard, is a great precedent that may urge many to follow. It is worth a mention that most of HP’s products are environment-friendly and can be recycled easily. HP has resolved to totally eliminate mercury by the year 2010.

In addition to its advanced components HP has not compromised on durability. The EliteBook is tough and rugged and best suited for those on the move. Its hard disk is shock resistant and its keyboard is spill-resistant. It is said to comply with MIL-STD 810F military standard tests. So bumps and knocks should not be a problem.

The EliteBook comes with a 14.1 inch (diagonal) WXGA anti-glare widescreen, or one can opt-in for the mercury-free Illumi-Lite LED display in order to extend the battery runtime.

It is powered by Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor with 2.26 GHz, 3MB l2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB. It allows wireless data transfers using Intel 802.11a/b/g draft-n and Bluetooth 2.0. The EliteBook is fitted with a 2 megapixel integrated camera with Business Card Reader Software for organizing and keeping track of associates and clientele. It weighs 4.7 pounds or 2.1 kgs and is priced at $1,199.00 onwards for the standard configuration.

Although the EliteBook 6930p promises freedom, the components required to make it last for 24 hours are not supplied with the standard package, and must be purchased at an extra cost. The required components: HP Illumi-Lite LED Display and the Intel 80 GB SSD drive will be available only in October, and may be heavily priced.

Moreover, the 24 hours battery runtime effectively depends on the loaded applications and power management settings. So whether HP’s claim holds true or not- only time will tell.
