Fujitsu-Siemens Stylistic ST6012 tablet PC Review
In a dynamic world, where man and machine are on the move, gadgets seem to be getting smarter as they get smaller. The Fujitsu-Siemens Stylistic ST6012 tablet PC seems to demonstrate just that. As this hand-held wonder seems to comprise all the ports and perform most functions that a conventional laptop does, does it have enough power and preference to replace the laptop?
The sleek and light ST6012 assures quality computing solutions at home, office or while on the move. Due to its small size it could accompany the user almost everywhere. A stylish slate for writing almost anything, the ST6012 could record minutes of a board meeting, rates and deals, customer details, to-do lists, appointments and events.
One could also use it to quickly jot down an important email address or a favorite recipe. The ST6012 sports a 12.1 inch TFT WXGA Touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, and can be easily written-on using the pen provided. So there is no need for a keyboard.
The ST6012 caters to the ever-increasing business demands by using the energy-efficient Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 processor with a processing speed of 1.4GHz. Smooth operation is ensured by the 1 GB RAM which is expandable to 4 GB. All this, integrated with the Intel GS45 chipset with BIOS features shows that the firmware can handle a complex configuration just like a desktop or laptop.
A 64GB light weight and efficient solid state drive is the latest in all tiny computing gadgets such as the ST6012. All this may begin to give professionals reasons to leave their luggables behind.
Inspite of being lightweight, the ST6012 is sturdy and durable and designed to be immune to dust and moisture. All activity is indicated by a blinking LED on the top right. There is also a touch sensitive button on the right border that launches the menu and other applications.
The battery has a reasonable run time and is said to last long enough for those outdoor times. For longer work-times, one can opt in for a powerful 9-pack battery. The left border has the fingerprint sensor that provides security to protect your important official and personal information.
On the left side is the connection for the 3G+UMTS antenna for dual band Wi Fi connectivity. Also there are two audio jacks, two USB ports, a VGA port, a LAN port, the AC adaptor slot and even a Kensington lock interface. On the right side is the pen holder and the infrared port for communication between mobile devices.
Bluetooth is also made available for quick data transfers between devices. There is also a WLAN on-off switch. On the top there is a PC Card slot, a smartcard slot and a SD card slot for transferring digital photos and other data. There is a 1.3 megapixel ComfCam webcam on the back side along with a connector for a docking station.
The ST6012 weighs 1.6 kg and, if rumors had it right, it may be priced at a whopping $2700, although the price and date of availability is not yet disclosed by Fujitsu-Siemens.
The final take on a tablet PC is that it cannot do all that a laptop can do. You can’t run and burn DVDs and use word processors the way you do on a laptop. But for those who think on their feet, the ST6012 may provide them with the versatility that they require.
