Fujifilm F2000EXR Review

Fujifilm F2000EXR Review

Fujifilm recently announced the launch of three new cameras, the A100, the A150 and F200EXR.

The A100 and A150 are nothing to write home about – both are entry level DSLRs with 10 megapixels, face detection, image stabilization, 30 fps video capability and lots of scene modes. These are ideal cameras for beginners and that’s about it. In case you are wondering about the differences in specs between the two models, there are none. So why two models? Well, the A100 has a 2.7 inch screen and the A150 has a 3 inch screen. That’s’ it. Go figure.

Looks: ★★★☆☆
Features: ★★★★☆
Ease of use: ★★★☆☆
Overall Rating: ★★★½☆

Anyway the interesting camera is the F200EXR. That’s because while this is also compact and looks a lot like the other two, it is the first and so far only camera to use the manufacturer’s new state of the art EXR processor. If you are a bit cynical about all the “new” technology that’s constantly emerging from various camera companies and all of which seem to promise far more than they deliver, take heart. The Fujifilm EXR processor does not promise too much and delivers with style in what it does.

The F200EXR offer 12 mega pixels photo quality. By now you have probably gotten fed up of being told that a high megapixel rating does not automatically translate into great photos. That’s true. But he reverse also applies. This 12 mega pixels camera seems to produce pictures that come from a camera with a much higher rating. One reason for this is the EXR processor. The EXR offers three separate shooting modes:

• High resolution mode
• High sensitivity along with low noise mode
• A wide dynamic range mode

The first mode is designed for the use of the camera in optimum conditions where it uses the 12 mega pixels to capture truly great pictures with extreme clarity and detail. The second mode enables the taking of photos in low light or dark conditions with surprising clarity and little distortion or disturbance. And the last mode allows for the use of a combination of different exposure settings to be used so that close ups can capture the maximum details.

The camera also has the usual features of red eye removal, face detection, dual level image stabilization, lots of scene modes and a 3 inch high resolution display. An interesting feature is the film simulation mode that allows you to create pictures that seem to belong to periods past. That’s about it. Nothing too spectacular and no promises about delivering the moon. The F200EXR is just a good modern compact DSLR with a great new processor which does not promise too much but produces the results it is supposed to.

Put this together with the Fujifilm build quality and durability and you have a tough reliable and easy to use point and shoot DSLR that will give you pictures the can compare with cameras with far more advance features.

The Camera is scheduled for release soon and the price will be announced at the time of its launch. But it’s bound to be reasonable. Fujifilm is making a real effort to position itself as a maker of high end point and shoots.
